How licensing works
Per seat, per year, with an offline path for every situation the online one does not fit.
Seats
A seat licenses one Windows computer at a time for one product. It is issued either as a license key that an investigator types into the application, or as a signed license file for computers that never reach the internet. A seat can be moved to a new computer from inside the application or from your account; a lost laptop's seat can be released by your agency administrator.
Terms and renewal
Terms are annual. We invoice or, where an agency prefers it, take card payment. Nothing renews automatically: your administrator receives reminders 45 and 14 days before the term ends and places a renewal order when your process allows. After a term ends without renewal the application opens read-only so your data remains viewable, searchable and exportable. Nothing is deleted and nothing is held back.
Getting started
- Request accessA person verifies that the request comes from an agency, usually by calling the agency's published number.
- ReviewDocumentation, requirements, the license agreement and pricing appear in your account. Evaluation licenses are available for a fixed period.
- OrderChoose products and seat counts. Pay by invoice against a purchase order, or by card.
- InstallDownload the current build from your account, verify its checksum, and enter a license key on first start. Offline units receive license files instead.
- RenewReminders arrive before the term ends. A renewal is a new order for the same seats.
Offline and air-gapped units
Offline license files require no network access, ever. They are issued on request at no additional charge, for any seat, at any time. Updates for offline units are delivered as a downloadable bundle with published checksums so a custodian can verify the file before it crosses onto controlled media.
What the license service receives
When an online key is used, the application sends only the license key or identifier, the product and version, a hashed machine identifier, and, at redemption, the name, agency and email the investigator types. The service records the time and network address of each request. The license agreement enumerates this list and we do not extend it.
If we stop operating
Your ability to use the software does not depend on us. If the license service is discontinued or is unavailable for more than 30 days, we issue offline license files to every affected agency at no charge, valid for the rest of the current term and at least 12 months beyond it, and we maintain a sunset release for that purpose. This is a contractual commitment in the license agreement, not a policy statement.
Pricing
Pricing is per seat, per product, per year, and is provided to verified agency personnel in their account along with a quote and a W-9 on request. Agencies subject to public bid thresholds can ask us to structure an order accordingly.
